Rare Beauty is making its first foray into the fine fragrance world this August. Announced on 29 July, the viral beauty label is debuting the Rare Eau de Parfum in US Sephora stores on 7 August, and on the Sephora app on 6 August. While this marks the brand’s first official eau de parfum, this isn’t the first time that the brand has ventured into fragranced products. In 2023, the American beauty label released the Find Comfort Body & Hair Fragrance Mist, a superfine light mist that rejuvenates both the locks and skin.
Designed to transition seamlessly from day to night, the Rare Eau de Parfum conceived by Gomez is a warm, spicy and earthy concoction. With notes of pistachio, vanilla, ginger and sandalwood, the scent is inviting, nuanced and oh-so-delightful. Founder Selena Gomez says in an Instagram post, “I wanted to create a scent that could evolve with the moment. [The scent] is personal and made to be layered.”
Speaking of layering, Gomez was referring to Rare Beauty’s new Fragrance Layering Balms. The American multi-hyphenate shares that these can be used in tandem with the Rare fragrance to create a unique scent tailored to your liking. The body balms are available in Woody Oak, Floral Peony Blossom, Amber Vanilla and Fresh Bergamot scents. Though it may be premature to decide which of the quartet is your favourite, we have a feeling that the vibrancy of Fresh Bergamot—with green tea, bergamot and cedarwood—is a fitting match for the deeper scent profile of the eau de parfum.
In Singapore, the fragrance is slated for official release on 8 August, though many details remain shrouded in mystery (for now). But keen Rare Beauty fans can keep an eye out for it at Sephora stores, where the brand is exclusively housed.
The launch of the fragrance and the layering balms reflects a larger shift within the beauty universe. In the never-ending pursuit of the “perfect scent”, tastes are slowly becoming more refined, and our noses more sophisticated. Picking out a scent to wear on the skin is no longer as straightforward as looking at ingredients and notes. More of us are seeking thoughtful personalisation, depth and nuance—qualities reflected in Rare Beauty’s newest beauty venture.
