Back in 2015, Clarins unveiled its Lip Comfort Oil. Little did the French beauty label know, at that time, that they would be creating an iconic multitasking lip product. Composed of 93 per cent natural-origin ingredients, the Lip Comfort Oil is the ultimate combination of nourishment and glamour. A single swipe unveils a lush oil that at once protects the lips and imbues the pout with a soft tinted pigment.
I remember trying this product out for the first time back in 2021. One swipe with the plush doe-foot applicator and I was hooked. Rich, silky and hydrating with just the right ooze of colour, the lip oil is a mainstay in my beauty arsenal, even years on. It’s no wonder, then, this product has earned its place as one of the internet’s most outstanding lip oils. Typically, I prefer makeup to come unscented but the Lip Comfort Oil’s scent—naturally derived from its ingredients—was a game-changer for me.

As the lip treatment product celebrates 10 years of makeup-skincare innovation this year, we speak with Marie Duhart, the brand’s newly minted global make-up creative director to uncover the enduring legacy of the Lip Comfort Oil.
GRAZIA Singapore (GS): Congratulations on the 10th anniversary of Clarins’s iconic Lip Comfort Oil! What do you think has made it such a staple in the makeup industry?
Marie Duhart (MD): Thank you! I think Clarins was truly a pioneer with the Lip Comfort Oil. For the first time, there was a lip product that combined makeup and lip care: nourishing, comforting, and giving that volumising shine in one swipe. This innovative approach transformed the way consumers view lip products. It’s this very innovation that has made it iconic and continues to make it a must-have even after 10 years!

GS: The Lip Comfort Oil went viral on TikTok for being the ultimate hybrid lip care product. Why do you think Gen Zs and Gen Alphas in particular are resonating with the product?
MD: I believe Gen Z and Gen Alpha are obsessed with the Lip Comfort Oil because it perfectly fits their beauty mindset: effortless, multitasking, and it’s a little product that’s fun to use and toss in your bag anytime.

GS: This year, the brand also unveiled the newest shade of the Lip Comfort Oil: Iconic Red No. 54. What does this shade represent to you personally and the brand?
MD: To me, Iconic Red No. 54 is the Clarins red—vibrant and confident, yet natural and effortless on the lips. It embodies the brand’s signature French elegance, combining statement impact with timeless refinement. Plus, the number 54 was chosen as an homage to the year Clarins was created: 1954.
GS: Within the lip care space, why do you think more consumers are shifting from traditional lipsticks to hybrid, skincare-infused products?
MD: I believe consumers are moving toward hybrid lip products because they want more than just colour payoff. Today’s generation is all about versatility, efficient routines, and products that feel good on the lips while enhancing their natural features.
GS: How do you think the Lip Comfort Oil will be received by younger generations 10 years down the road?
MD: 10 years from now, I see Lip Comfort Oil still inspiring younger generations—it’s a versatile, feel-good product that adapts to evolving—even fleeting—beauty trends. It’s more than makeup product; it’s a ritual.

GS: As Clarins’s new global make-up creative director, what is your vision for the brand? Any key innovations or plans you plan to introduce in your new role?
MD: For me, it’s about revealing every woman’s unique radiance. I want our makeup to feel inspired by nature yet elevated with a touch of boldness and emotion. It’s about creating looks that are modern, effortless, and empowering—enhancing beauty rather than masking it.
Clarins’s immense heritage is at the heart of everything! I’m working on formulas that are highly sensorial and skin-friendly, combining the comfort of skincare with the performance of makeup. And because sustainability is a key part of Clarins’s DNA, we are embracing eco-conscious packaging and a circular approach to beauty that looks towards the future.
Beauty is deeply personal, and I want everyone to feel seen and celebrated. That’s why we’re expanding our complexion ranges and creating tailor-made beauty experiences—both in-store and digitally. Our campaigns are meant to speak to the heart. I want them to feel authentic yet artistically bold.
My vision is to leverage our skincare expertise to create easy-to-use, inclusive products that celebrate every woman’s beauty. I want makeup that delivers high-performance results while providing a sensorial experience.
GS: Beyond the Lip Comfort Oil, what is one other makeup product from Clarins that you feel consumers need to know about?
MD: Definitely the Skin Illusion Full Coverage and Skin Illusion Serum Primer—the flawless complexion duo. Both perfectly embody Clarins’s philosophy: the seamless fusion of skincare and makeup. The skin Illusion Serum Primer, specially developed for Asian skin, offers a fluid, serum-like texture that forms an imperceptible veil—enhancing beauty instantly and revealing smoother skin over time. Skin Illusion Full Coverage delivers full natural coverage with no mask effect for an instantly perfected look, while day after day helping to reduce blemishes and shine.
