A Gentle RF Facial Exists (Finally)

Think collagen-boosting vacuum eggs and a therapist in RF-powered gloves. Strange, soothing, but will leave you looking snatched

I’m no stranger to radio-frequency (RF) facials. As an ageing millennial, my skin is starting to show the multiple “once-in-a-lifetime” crises we’ve all lived through, and frankly, I want my Covid-wasted collagen back. I’ve explored multiple treatments in the name of looking 25 forever, and my extra-sensitive, ultra-pale skin responds very well to RF—so it’s my go-to modality when things are looking a little lax.

However, radio-frequency isn’t all snatched jaws and sparkling skin. Traditional treatments focus on heating the skin to induce damage, thereby triggering healing and new collagen formation. Unfortunately, this heat can cause hyper-pigmentation in melanated skin and facial fat loss across the spectrum—resulting in an aged, sunken appearance. That’s why the device and the practitioner are essential choices when opting for an RF facial, and should not be approached lightly.

With the US Food & Drug Administration releasing a safety communication on RF microneedling—warning of possible fat loss, burns, scarring, hyper-pigmentation and nerve damage—how you get your radio-frequency fix has never been more important.

Enter Corage 2.0 at SSKINS MediSpa. Owned and run by Dr Angeline Yong, Singapore’s first SkinCeuticals flagship medispa offers the latest in radio-frequency facial technology—so you can be sure your anti-ageing approach won’t do more harm than good.

Corage 2.0 emits multiple resonance frequencies (16 main frequencies ranging from ~4 MHz to ~64 MHz compared with the traditional ~0.51 MHz to ~1 MHz) that interact with skin cells at a molecular level—promoting cellular activity, collagen and elastin synthesis, and dermal renewal without overt thermal damage. The hand-pieces also enhance the complexity and efficacy of the treatment, with the ‘egg’ handpiece applying gentle vacuum suction to deliver resonance energy precisely into the skin, and the glove-style applicator for delicate or curved areas—offering targeted collagen stimulation and lift.

Corage 2.0 Age Defy Ritual

I tried SSKINS’ “Courage Age Defy Ritual” to test the modalities and hand-pieces; and TL;DR—I was very impressed. My therapist started with a standard double cleanse and hydrate, using only SkinCeuticals products, which cleansed, soothed and prepped my skin for the Corage 2.0 treatment. She also used a plasma roller to increase circulation and boost the efficacy of the products and treatments to come.

I enjoyed the sensation of the egg’s gentle suction, which helped target the RF to specific skin areas, and left me with an immediate glow from the increased circulation. I could feel a very slight warming—but it was nothing compared with other RF facials I’ve tried, and I imagine it’s far more suitable if you’re worried about hyper-pigmentation or melasma.

The most interesting step for me was the glove-style hand-piece—which is literally worn on the therapist’s hand like a glove, and used in massaging techniques to deliver RF. The massage not only aided lymphatic drainage, but genuinely relaxed me until I was almost asleep. The number of contact points—in this case, fingers—moderated the intensity of the RF, so my therapist could expertly address my problem areas and then ease up on places that tend to be more sensitive or prone to fat loss. The session culminated with a Scalp Meridian Bojin treatment, designed to increase blood flow to the scalp while relaxing the mind and supporting overall wellness.

My final results will take time to show (which is typical of all RF facials), but I was pleasantly surprised with how snatched I looked immediately after the treatment. I assume this was down to the massage from the glove-style applicator, and now I’m a firm believer in this method of RF energy delivery. I was also impressed with the zero downtime, redness or irritation—previous RF sessions I’ve had at other clinics left me hot and red for up to 48 hours.

If you’re looking for a subtle snatch but don’t want the associated risks, Corage 2.0 at SSKINS MediSpa is a great option—and you’ll be in very capable hands with the team. They offer a range of other treatments to suit all skin types, goals and/or concerns too, so definitely check them out.
