Chen Yixin appreciates the simple things in life. Lately, she’s been inspired by nature and ’70s love songs. In her free time, the 25-year-old catches up with her girlfriends and spends time with loved ones. And her idea of a perfect weekend? “Getting to sleep in, grabbing a coffee and maybe going for a Pilates class,” says Chen. “Then I’ll head home and continue watching my TV shows.”

That may sound ordinary, but Chen’s life is anything but. The daughter of Singaporean actors Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun, she inherited their passion for acting. You might have seen her in the Netflix series Mr Midnight: Beware the Monsters or the Chinese drama All That Glitters. Beyond acting, she’s also a content creator—often spotted at glitzy fashion events— and an entrepreneur with her own fashion label. Asked how she balances it all, Chen replies: “It’s like a Tetris game. But if you’re lucky enough, like I am, to do the things you love, you’ll always be able to make time for it.”

She also carves out time to unwind at her favourite spots, like the beach. “My beach essentials are my Kindle, tanning oil, sunscreen, AirPods and a digital camera for cute pictures,” she says.

Like a true Singaporean, Chen enjoys a good meal. “My favourite weekend brunch spot is Blanco Court Prawn Mee on Beach Road, which is where I go if I want something savoury,” she shares. “Also, Bedok Market has the best kaya toast and eggs.”

With plenty of places to be in a day, Chen has mastered versatility in her wardrobe. She gravitates towards layering, colour blocking and vintage finds. Another favourite? “Prints on prints on prints!” she says with a laugh.

“Fashion is definitely an important part of my self-expression,” she adds. “I wouldn’t say it should define someone, but it should always feel free and expressive.”

Ahead, Chen shares more about her style evolution, her go-to dressing tricks and how she takes an outfit from day to night.

How were you first introduced to fashion?

Chen Yixin (CYX): My mum has always been my number one fashion inspiration. From her, I gained two things: a whole new wardrobe and the knowledge that I truly got my shopaholic tendencies from her.

Who are your style inspirations?

CYX: Besides my mum, I look to Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and a whole bunch of Copenhagen influencers I’ve pinned on my Pinterest.

How would you describe your personal style?

CYX: My style changes often—that’s the best part about fashion. You get to express yourself iin so many ways without rules. For now, my style revolves around comfort, versatility and classic pieces.

How has your style changed over the years?

CYX: I’m investing more in quality pieces and finding cuts that actually make me feel like myself.

What do you love the most about the Polo Ralph Lauren brand?

CYX: Polo Ralph Lauren is timeless. Their clothes already have stories to tell.

What’s something surprising or unexpected that you carry in your bag?

CYX: Nothing crazy. I carry a multipurpose balm because I’m a klutz with very dry lips. And I always bring a huge water bottle—I don’t see an issue with it, but people always seem amused.

What’s your personal style tip for taking an outfit from day to night?

CYX: Layering! You have no idea how much a pair of stockings can change a whole look.

What accessories can’t you leave the house without?

CYX: My jewellery set from my mum for my 21st birthday, my phone and a good pair of sunglasses.

What’s one thing you’ll never wear, and why?

CYX: Skinny jeans. I don’t think I can ever pull them off.
