Suiting stole the spotlight at the 2025 Met Gala, which took place, as always, on the first Monday of May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s gala follows the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, as a nod to the Met’s new exhibition which explores the evolution of the Black dandy in Western fashion. Accordingly, the dress code for the evening was “Tailored For You”, which was interpreted in a myriad of ways on the red carpet by actors, musicians and celebrities from all over the world.

Anna Sawai, for example, showed up in an impeccable white cotton gabardine suit from Dior. The Shōgun actress also wore a hat, a tie and a pair of gloves, all in white—resulting in a striking ensemble that, coincidentally, was similar to Zendaya’s. Like Sawai, GRAZIA Singapore cover star Freen Sarocha also made her Met Gala debut this year. The Thai actress was dressed by Valentino’s creative director Alessandro Michele for the occasion. She arrived in a cream jacket with faux fur trimming, which she wore over an embellished mesh top and a black skirt with a train and a slit. Making sure that her ensemble was, indeed, tailored for her, Freen’s look also featured feminine touches, like a pink bow and floral tights. ⁠

Given that this year’s Met Gala dress code called for tailoring, it only made sense that men stole the show at the red carpet. British-Malaysian actor Henry Golding made his return to the Met Gala in a golden suit by Ozwald Boateng, who is the first Black tailor on London’s revered Savile Row. It was a good call from Golding, considering that Boateng’s designs have been championed by dapper men like Idris Elba and Met Gala co-chair Colman Domingo.

Shah Rukh Khan was another noteworthy attendee at this year’s Met Gala. The Bollywood icon wore a dramatic black coat, a silk shirt and tailored wool trousers. Against his understated, all-black ensemble, Khan’s unique accessories stood out. He wore layers of necklaces over his jacket, including one with a bold “K” pendant, and he also brandished a cane featuring the head of a bengal tiger carved out of 18k gold and embellished with tourmalines, sapphires and diamonds.

Shah Rukh Khan’s dramatic Met Gala look was the work of Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who shared his inspirations in an Instagram post: “My interpretation of the Black Dandy is demonstrating [Khan’s] super stardom on a global stage. Dressed in classic menswear with the maximalist flourish of Sabyasachi, Shah Rukh Khan is a magician, superstar, and icon. Period.”
