American pop star Katy Perry is the face of Dolce & Gabbana Beauty’s newest olfactory creation: the Devotion Eau de Parfum (EDP) Intense. Created by master perfumer Olivier Cresp—the nose behind Dolce & Gabbana Beauty’s Devotion and Light Blue fragrance families—the new variation opens up on the nose with hazelnut, and carries the striking orange blossom note at its heart. A gourmand lover’s dream, the fragrance also features a rich vanilla note in its base.

As an ambassador of Dolce & Gabbana Beauty, Perry stars in the Devotion EDP Intense’s campaign. Against the sunlit backdrop of Capri, the singer-songwriter embodies the seduction and power of the Devotion Intense as she dances the night away on the Italian island.

Below, we speak to Perry on how she embodies the essence of the Devotion EDP Intense through her personal life, her music and her philanthropic endeavours.

This is your first campaign with Dolce & Gabbana Beauty. What is your relationship with the designers, and what values do you share with the brand?
I admire the work of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. I love their creative boldness, unmistakable style, and connection with their roots, which is evident in everything they do. They themselves built this brand from the ground up, and it has evolved so magnificently over the decades.

How would you describe the Devotion fragrance? How does it reflect your personality?
It’s a gourmand fragrance, very luscious and sweet. It has something that keeps me coming back for more. I’m very particular about my scent, and I’ve never really strayed far from certain ingredients, and Devotion is my new elevated version of that cocktail.

What were your first sensations when you wore it for the first time?
It felt so authentically me—I felt cosy and sweet, and young and delicious. It felt like flirting and falling in love for the first time.

The original inspiration behind the fragrance creation was the “Panettone”, a traditional Italian dessert.
I totally see that inspiration, and I’m hungry now!

It is said that fragrances can evoke forgotten memories. Has this ever happened to you?
Yes, it has happened to me often, and it’s like going back in time. Fragrances make emotions come alive again and transport you back to a plethora of emotional moments.

What are your earliest memories related to the sense of smell?
The scent of the ocean and the salty crisp air always take me back to Santa Barbara, where I was born and raised. And then the scent of vanilla, an all-time favourite note of mine, which I’ve been wearing since I was 15.

Devotion represents a declaration of love and gratitude. What are the three things that you feel the most love and gratitude for in life?
My daughter Daisy Dove, love, and music.

What is the thing or person that you are most dedicated to?
First of all, being a mother. And secondly, music changed my life, and I try to pay that forward through the work of my Firework Foundation, which empowers children from underserved communities by igniting their inner light through the arts. Our tentpole activation is Camp Firework, a sleep-away experience in nature filled with artistic programming.

Capri is one of the iconic places of Italian beauty, famous worldwide for its natural landscapes, food, and people. What did you love the most about the island?
Its beautiful topography is the perfect setting for the most incredible parties, romances, celebrations. There’s so much life and authentic Italian vibes—it’s like the whole of Italy in one small island.

Did you enjoy immersing yourself in the cheerful and carefree atmosphere of a “Made in Italy” vacation?
Yes, I really felt like I was on vacation—I even brought my mom and her friend! I think you can tell by looking at the campaign. The atmosphere was relaxed, and engaging, and everything happened very spontaneously. I was able to enjoy some local meals as we were changing sets.

When you think of Italy, what are the first three images that come to your mind?
History, culinary excellence, and fashion.

When will we see you again in Italy?
Italy will always be a stop on my world tours, and I hope to see everyone again then.
