Milan Fashion Week is looking very different this season. It began with Gucci, which presented its Fall/Winter 2025 collection full of coats in pop colours, lace slip dresses and horsebit-inspired accessories. The collection, created by Gucci’s in-house design team, made nods to the Italian fashion brand’s former creative directors: Tom Ford, Alessandro Michele and Sabato De Sarno, who left Gucci in early February.

De Sarno’s successor hasn’t been named, and neither has that of Kim Jones, who left his role as creative director of Fendi womenswear last year. In his stead, Silvia Venturini Fendi offered a ladylike line-up of fabulous furs, sequin-embellished coats and gauzy dresses as part of Fendi’s 100th anniversary celebrations. At Jil Sander, creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier presented their collection of sequinned fringe dresses and sharp tailoring. Minutes after the fashion show, the husband-and-wife duo’s exit from the brand was officially announced.

Farewells aside, the Italian fashion industry is also welcoming new faces. Sort of. Lorenzo Serafini, who is best known for his work at Philosophy, joined Alberta Ferretti as creative director after the brand’s namesake founder stepped down last year. Serafini’s debut collection featured ruffled blouses and jackets, flowing sheer dresses and fluid satin dresses—all of which aligns with Ferretti’s light, romantic and sensual vision of femininity.

We will soon see if the stars also align at Blumarine, when newly-christened creative director David Koma showcases his first collection for the brand.

For the rest of Milan Fashion Week, you can look forward to fresh visions of luxury and elegance from storied Italian fashion houses like Max Mara, Tod’s, Ferragamo, Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli.

The week will close with an emerging designer and an established one: Susan Fang will present her fashion show in Milan with the support of Dolce & Gabbana, while Giorgio Armani will showcase his collection in his headquarters, Armani/Teatro.
