Each holiday season, we bring together creative families—from siblings and couples to dynamic collectives—to celebrate the unique bonds that define their relationships. These families remind us that creativity isn’t just about artistic expression; it’s about connection. The magic of the season lies not only in the shared creativity but in the moments where love flows through thoughtful gestures, quality time, and the language that speaks to the heart. Wrapping up our “Love Language” series are fashion content creator Salina Chai and her husband John Chung. Ahead, we find out why the co-founders of Margo & Smith make the perfect pair.

Salina, how would you describe John?

Salina Chai (SC): John is the calm to my storm—he’s driven, ambitious, and incredibly grounded. He’s the person I look up to the most. He’s my balance and my home. If I’m ever lost or unsure, he’s the rock I lean on.

John, how would you describe Salina?

John Chung (JC): Salina is down-to-earth, humble, and filled with a natural charm. She consistently brings her best self forward each day and is endlessly supportive, encouraging, and optimistic.

How do you like to express your love and support to each other?

SC: We’re all about words of affirmation! Whether it’s a motivational text, a video message, or a surprise Post-It note on the laptop or door, we love leaving little reminders for each other that we are in each other’s corner. It’s the little things that keep us connected.

JC: We enjoy leaving small notes for each other and doing simple, thoughtful things. We both believe that it’s not the grand gestures or gifts that make a relationship meaningful; it’s the consistent, everyday efforts. We’re always there to support each other’s ideas and challenge each other to grow.

Salina, what is something that John has said to you that has stuck with you?

SC: He’s always reminded me that setbacks and obstacles are just part of the journey. Whenever things get tough, he’s the first to tell me, “You can do this,” and to focus on the bigger picture. His belief in me gives me the strength to keep going.

John, what is something that Salina has said to you that has stuck with you?

JC: She often tells me, “I believe you can do it.” While it may sound simple, those words are incredibly empowering and motivate me to do my best.

What is something unique or special about your bond that you don’t experience with anyone else?

SC: I swear, John is the male version of me! We have similar values, dreams, and goals, and I know he always has my back. He is my biggest supporter and would do anything to see me succeed. Bonus point: he has a serious love for fashion too.

JC: Beyond being romantic partners, Salina is truly my best friend. We have a lot of fun together and share similar values and a vision for the life we want to build. It’s a rare and special connection.

What have you learned from each other about loving and supporting someone?

SC: From John, I’ve learned that love isn’t just about the big gestures. It’s about being patient, calm, and present. He has taught me to really connect with my emotions and understand the power of quiet support.

JC: Salina has taught me that real love and support go beyond praises and sweet words. It’s about being present and cherishing shared moments together.

What is the most memorable gift you have received from each other?

SC: I’m a sucker for sentimental gifts so this gift is extra special for me. For our first Christmas together, he made a pair of shoes for me by hand. It was such a thoughtful gift, and knowing how much time and effort he put into creating them makes them so special to me. On any major occasion or milestone, he makes or has shoes made for me.

JC: I’m a big fan of music and have a record collection. One Christmas, Salina pressed a record for me with all our favourite songs from that year, which included a voice recording of a little message from her. It was so thoughtful, and every time I play it, I’m reminded of our special moments together.

How do you spend the holidays meaningfully?

SC: The holidays are all about reflection and connection for us. John and I always take the time to sit down and talk about the year—what went well, what didn’t, and what we want to work on in the coming year. And, of course, no holiday is complete without a big feast with our closest family and friends!
JC: We love cooking and sharing a hearty meal together with family and friends. To us, that’s the essence of the holidays—celebrating love and togetherness.
