Over the years, Simon Porte Jacquemus has pioneered viral marketing in fashion, generating the kind of hype for his globetrotting shows. From sprawling lavender fields in the South of France to the Palace of Versailles, the designer has set a new standard for the modern runway spectacle, and season after season, we lap it up. For his Cruise 2025 collection, La Casa, Jacquemus invited just a handful of guests to Casa Malaparte, a sun-drenched property on the isle of Capri, where celebrities and fashion heads gathered to witness his latest feat.
Along with A-listers like Dua Lipa, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Peggy Gou, fans expected BLACKPINK member Jennie Kim to make an appearance at the show, given her close relationship with its founder. But never one to do the expected, Jacquemus actually had tapped the songstress to close the show instead of sit on the sidelines.
As a surprise to all, Kim walked the show in a flared black halter dress that skimmed the knee, zebra print mules, and an aquamarine clutch like she had been doing it all her life—even gracefully stepping down the mammoth staircase that features on the property.
The villa was famously used to film Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 classic Contempt. As a major fan of the director’s work, Jacquemus told outlets that he was taken with the scenery of the island and that getting to show at the iconic location was “a dream come true”.
For Fall 2023, Princess Diana served as inspiration. Now, two other sartorially powerful women were on the moodboard: Contempt‘s leading lady, Bridgett Bardot and Jackie O. And though their aesthetics sit on opposing sides of the spectrum, La Casa marries the effortless sensuality of Bardot with the paired-back refinement of the former FLOTUS.
On the womenswear front, the structural intrigue Jacquemus has always established came in the form of oversized lapels that wrapped around shoulders, wide peplum silhouettes and dramatic draping. Instead of hugging the body for emphasis, dresses, outerwear, and skirts fell fluidly in both sheer and opaque finishes, imparting the sense that each piece was truly made for the wearer.
Elsewhere, his usual vibrant colour palette was still present, but it was more grown-up with rich red, turquoise, and zebra prints—which we’re tipping to be everywhere this season, along with a few other motifs of this collection. As he’s known to do, Jacquemus just set the scene for what we’ll all be wearing in the months to come.
